Henry Dodge, first Territorial Governor of Wisconsin, is a well-known Midwestern figure. Tracey Lee Roberts, historian, will shed light on Dodge’s command of his Battalion of Mounted Rangers during the conflict known as the Blackhawk War. Viewing Blackhawk and his people as an existential threat to his way of life, Dodge reached new heights of celebrity after his successful campaign against Blackhawk’s Band. Tracey Lee Roberts is Senior Lecturer Emerita from the University of Wisconsin- Platteville. For three decades, she has been writing and researching about the history of the old Lead Mine District of the Upper Mississippi River Valley. She is writing a full-length book about the Life of Henry Dodge. She is currently the Executive Director of the Grant County Historical Society.
