JOIN US EACH JANUARY, FEBRUARY, & MARCH
MPHS presents a variety of events throughout the year, including Sunday afternoon Lyceum presentations, concerts out on the lawn, exhibits, historical tours & exhibits, Caroling on High Street, and our annual Christmas Party.
We’re especially proud of our Lyceums, free to the public, which over the years have covered a broad array of topics pertinent to our local history. This January we kicked off the season with “Mineral Point Artists, Past and Present” moderated by Jim Stroschein. This event is part of the “Old-Timers’ Series,” an ongoing series that periodically showcases Mineral Pointers to help us remember earlier days in Mineral Point. It was a lively discussion and plenty of audience participation.
February we dove into a discussion with Tamara Thomsen, Wisconsin Historical Society Archaeologist and cave diver around a cozy fire at Orchard Lawn. She shared images, video, maps and stories from the submerged passages of the region’s mining industries.
March we ended the season with Tracy Lee Roberts, Senior Lecturer Emeritus, recently retired from the History Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She has been researching and writing about the Lead Mine District for three decades. She is currently writing a book on The Life of Henry Dodge in the Upper Mississippi Valley.
Please join us again in 2020 for our next Lyceum Series. Have suggestions or want to present please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
